Introduction to Common Conditions

What are Common Chiropractic Conditions?

Most people think that chiropractors only fix aching backs, but chiropractic care is so much more. Chiropractors focus on how disorders of the spine, muscles, and nerves affect overall health. Using a variety of natural therapies that do not involve prescription drugs or surgery, chiropractors treat and help prevent problems of the spine as well as restore joint mobility, and support optimal nervous system function. Here are some common conditions treated by chiropractors:

Pain

Pain is common, but it is not normal. Medications often focus on alleviating pain, but they generally don’t fix the root cause of the pain.

Neck Pain With the constant use of phones, tablets, and computers, people are experiencing neck pain and discomfort more than ever before. In many chronic cases, this neck pain also comes with pain in the fingers, hands, arms, or shoulders. Did you know chiropractic care can help? Whether you have neck pain from using technology, sitting at a desk, falling asleep in an uncomfortable position, experiencing whiplash, or for any other reason, we can assess your neck pain and work with you to create a treatment plan that will get you feeling better.

Headaches/Migraines

Headaches and migraines are other common problems, and many chiropractors treat them on a daily basis. There are many different types of headaches and migraines, and many different causes for headaches or migraines as well. If you are suffering from headaches or migraines, schedule an appointment. We can evaluate the type of headache or migraine you are dealing with and offer treatment options for your condition.

Back Pain

Back pain is the number one cause of disability around the world, and it often keeps people from performing everyday tasks. It is also the top reason for seeking chiropractic care. Because the back, and the spine more specifically, is such a complicated structure (we want it that way—the spine is protecting your spinal cord and keeping your body erect, after all!), chiropractors can help figure out what is causing your back pain and what we need to do to help you get back to your everyday activities.

Sciatica

If you are experiencing pain in your lower back that moves into your leg(s) to your feet, schedule an appointment today. Sciatica is a condition that we see very often. Sometimes it can be hard to figure out if you are dealing with “true sciatica” or pain coming from another place in your back. We will examine you to identify where your symptoms are coming from and can then recommend treatment to relieve the sciatica.

Other Joint Pain Chiropractors often examine and treat joints outside of the spine as well. Let us know if you are experiencing other joint pains, no matter how small.

Muscle Imbalance

Often when joints aren’t moving well or in the direction they should be moving, there is extra tension and stress on muscles. The muscle strain can make joint problems worse, creating a cycle of restricted motion, pain, and muscle tension. Chiropractors can examine muscle imbalances and help determine what is causing the muscle imbalance, and conversely, what problems the muscle imbalance may be causing, as well as how to correct the problem.

Neurologic Symptoms

Some patients complain of numbness, tingling, or pain alone or along with lack of motion. Your nervous system is very complicated, and chiropractors can work with you to determine if your neurologic symptoms are related to your spine.

Repetitive Motion

Overuse and Postural Problems Many people have trouble with repetitive motion or overuse of certain muscles or joints, which is sometimes related to a problem with posture. There are many factors to consider with these conditions, and chiropractors may be able to piece together the puzzle—working on the joints and tissues while also finding other postural or ergonomic problems (workspace setup, for example) that may be creating extra stress.

Immobility

Pain and immobility often go hand in hand, but they can also be separate problems. Scar tissue, inflammation, and lack of flexibility are all common causes of immobility, resulting in a limited range of motion. If you have difficulty walking or moving in certain ways, we can evaluate the problem area(s) and in many cases can create a treatment plan to improve your mobility.

Preventive/Wellness Care

A main goal for many chiropractors is to keep you moving and feeling well. We will help you work through your physical complaints and concerns, decreasing your pain and increasing your mobility. Once those goals have been met, we want to help keep you moving well and without pain. There are many factors that we consider when creating your treatment plan, and we want to make sure your treatment allows you to meet goals, enables your body to heal as quickly as possible, and increases your ability to remain pain-free and achieve optimum performance.

Chiropractors can help with a wide variety of concerns outside of back or neck pain. Whether you are in pain or want to talk about what chiropractic wellness care may look like for you, schedule an appointment today.
